The Child Center of New York

Who We Are:

Founded in 1953, The Child Center of NY (CCNY), has been a powerful community resource throughout the city. With nearly 70 locations and serving more than 35,000 children and their families, the Child Center of NY provides programming and services in: Early childhood and youth development, mental health, prevention and family support, and health homes & integrated care.

CCNY has been serving students who attend the Far Rockaway Campus since 2014. We currently provide students with: Workshops on various life skills, job readiness training, internships, and employment opportunities through programming. We also offer additional support to our students and their families through our agency’s Cornerstone Community Centers in the Far Rockaway community. 


Programs We Currently Offer:

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) – Department of Youth & Community Development funded initiative which provides 200+ Queens High School for Information, Research & Technology (QIRT) students, the opportunity to join the workforce in fields of their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic and leadership skills. By participating in structured project and work-based opportunities, NYC youth are better prepared for careers of the future. Students who are between the ages of 14 – 21 can be in this program and can work up to 25 hours during the summer, making between $700 - $2500.

Work, Learn & Grow Program (WLG) – Department of Youth & Community Development funded initiative designed to build off the experiences gained in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). WLG provides QIRT participants between the ages of 16 – 21 with career readiness training and paid employment opportunities throughout the school year. Students work up to 15 hours a week and earn approximately $3200.

 

Neighborhood Development Area Internship Program (NDA) – Department of Youth & Community Development funded initiative that provides students who reside in the Far Rockaway and Arverne areas tutoring, life-skills workshops, internships, and service-learning opportunities. Students in this program earn a $100 stipend every month throughout the entire school year.  This program is open to students of all ages.

 

Success Mentor Program – United Community Schools (UCS) funded initiative in collaboration with The Child Center of NY, which provides the following services to QIRT students: Social emotional learning, service-learning opportunities, peer to peer support and mediation, school leadership initiatives. Students in this program receive an end of year stipend $300+ along with incentives, and this program is open to students of all ages.
